Buc-ee’s Explores Expansion in Kansas City and St. Louis

Buc-ee’s, the popular Texas-based convenience store chain, is planning to open its first Missouri location in Springfield next month and is already considering further expansion in the state. The company is exploring real estate opportunities in Kansas City, St. Louis, and surrounding areas, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

Missouri Expansion Plans

A spokesperson for Buc-ee’s mentioned that there might be one or two additional locations in store for Missouri. The company is particularly interested in a location off Interstate 55 in the St. Louis area. Founded in 1982 in Texas, Buc-ee’s has become a beloved convenience store chain with dozens of locations throughout the southern United States.

First Missouri Location Opening Soon

The first Buc-ee’s location in Missouri is set to open in Springfield on December 11. According to spokesperson Rachel Austin, “Buc-ee’s Springfield will occupy 53,000 square feet and offer 120 fueling positions just outside its store with thousands of snack, meal, and drink options for travelers on the go.” Buc-ee’s favorites, including Texas barbecue, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver nuggets, jerky, and fresh pastries, will all be available at the new location.

Competitor Wally’s Also Expanding in Missouri

As Buc-ee’s explores expansion opportunities in Missouri, its travel center competitor Wally’s is also broadening its presence in the state. St. Louis-based Wally’s opened its first Missouri location in Fenton in 2022 and plans to take over a former Kmart site in Independence, with hopes to break ground in 2024.

With the growing presence of travel center chains like Buc-ee’s and Wally’s in Missouri, it is clear that the demand for convenient shopping and fueling options remains strong. As these companies continue to expand, they will bring additional jobs and economic benefits to the communities they serve.
