Underdog Wine Co. owners Ryan and Jenny Sciara will be opening a cozy neighborhood wine bar at 5514 Oak, just around the corner from their Brookside shop. The anticipated opening is in early January.

Whole Harvest

A health-focused restaurant will be opening at 4853 W. 117th St. in Leawood, serving delicious options like zucchini bread, loaded sweet potatoes, lentil pancakes, and edamame dip. The projected opening is in the second week of January.

Tiki Taco

With two successful locations in Kansas City, Tiki Taco is expanding to Overland Park at 7514 W. 80th St. Expect the same popular menu items like crunchy tacos, nachos, and burritos. The opening is planned for January.

1981 K-Chicken

Located at 10412 Mastin St., 1981 K-Chicken is a Korean chicken restaurant and bar set to open in January. This is the first concept from longtime friends Kue-Jin Hwang, Sung Jo, and Kyoungmin Kim, who have dreamed of opening a restaurant for years.

Aqua Penny’s

The owners of Bamboo Penny’s are opening a seafood and oyster bar concept called Aqua Penny’s in the same Leawood shopping center. Aqua Penny’s will serve lunch, dinner, happy hour, and brunch, with a projected opening in February.

Lottie’s Get Down

The Nashville-based firm behind the Westport music venue Tin Roof will be opening a Southern-fried chicken concept at 4057 Pennsylvania Ave. The building was previously home to Mickey’s Hideaway and McCoy’s Public House. Lottie’s Get Down is expected to open in early 2024.

The Blue Palm

Owners Dan Doty, Roxie Danner, and Houston DeFoe are planning a tiki bar at 204 Orchard St. in Kansas City, Kansas, in the space formerly occupied by Mockingbird Lounge. The Blue Palm is set to open in early 2024.

Green Dirt on Oak

Sarah Hoffmann, artisan cheesemaker and owner of Green Dirt Farm in Weston, will be opening a fine-dining restaurant at 1601 Oak St. in the Crossroads area. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, featuring her award-winning cheeses. A rooftop deck, event space, and production facility are also planned. The opening is scheduled for early 2024.

Osteria Bianchi

Las Vegas culinary transplants Josh and Kelly Bianchi are planning a traditional Italian restaurant at 9261 N.E. 83rd Terrace, near Liberty, Missouri. The menu will feature dishes like tonnarelli cacio e pepe pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and a pork trio. The opening is planned for early 2024.

Meddys

The Wichita-based Mediterranean restaurant Meddys, with locations in Brookside and Prairie Village, is expanding to Lenexa, on the southwest corner of West 88th Street and Maurer Road. The restaurant offers shawarmas, hummus plates, and salads, inspired by owner Alex Harb’s Lebanese culture. The opening is scheduled for March.

Sushi Kodawari

Austin transplant Karson Thompson plans to open Kansas City’s first omakase sushi restaurant at 2100 Central St. The intimate dining experience will feature an eight-seat counter with two seatings per night. The opening is planned for spring 2024.

Carne Diem

Louis Guerrieri and Sarah Nelson, the husband-and-wife team behind Ombra, are planning an upscale meat market and seafood counter at 4179 N. Mulberry Drive. The opening is scheduled for spring 2024.

The Fresh Mediterranean Co.

Owner Hanif Lakhani is expanding his Middle Eastern restaurant, which started inside a Lawrence Cenex gas station, into a fast-casual concept at 3904 Bell in Kansas City. The menu will include chicken shawarma, falafel, hummus, and gyros. The opening is planned for spring 2024.

Night Goat

Fox and Pearl’s Sunday barbecue pop-up will get its own permanent space in the West Side restaurant’s basement at 2139 Summit. The honky-tonk dive bar will feature barbecue sandwiches and tacos on the menu. The opening is scheduled for late spring or summer 2024.

Enjoy Pure Food + Drink

Staci Cross, owner of a health restaurant in Leawood’s Mission Farms, is expanding her concept to Lenexa. The new restaurant will be part of a project called Restaurant Row near 87th Street and Renner Boulevard. The opening is planned for September 2024.
