From Deli Owner to Top Real Estate Agent: The Inspiring Journey of Brandon Roberts

At just 19 years old, Brandon Roberts was given a unique opportunity that would shape the rest of his life. His father sold him his deli, and Roberts, who was already working in the food and beverage industry, said it turned out to be the opportunity of a lifetime.

A Solid Foundation in Business

When he bought City Cafe in 1992, Roberts didn’t just buy a deli; he bought his own job. He learned the ins and outs of running a business, from money management to managing employees. These skills would eventually lead him to become the broker/owner of Signature Real Estate Group and being named the agent of the year for 2023 by Las Vegas Realtors.

Lessons Learned from a Deli

While working at the deli, Roberts gained valuable advice from an older employee named Irma Castro. She taught him about patience and temperament, lessons that would serve him well in his future career in real estate. After five years of owning the deli and putting in endless hours, Roberts decided it was time for a change.

Entering the World of Real Estate

Roberts’ friend had been recruited from a rental car shop to get into mortgages and tried to recruit him as well. Instead, Roberts decided he wanted to sell homes for the mortgages. He enrolled in real estate school, sold the deli, and went full-time into real estate in 1996.

Overcoming Challenges in the Real Estate Industry

Getting into the real estate game was anything but a sure bet, with interest rates still coming down from their historical highs in the 1980s and early 90s. Roberts persevered, opening his own brokerage and eventually buying a franchise that provided him with the blueprint for success.

By 2007, Roberts had three offices and more than 350 agents working for him. However, the real estate industry was about to experience a once-in-a-lifetime downturn. Real estate firms across the country were closing at an alarming rate, and Roberts had to learn valuable lessons the hard way.

Rising from the Ashes

Despite the challenges, Roberts managed to open six offices in Las Vegas after five years, laying the foundation for Signature Real Estate Group. Although he was tired and worn out from starting his real estate brokerage career during the economic downturn, Roberts decided to open Signature in May 2013 and never looked back.

Today, Roberts has turned his firm into one of the most successful in the area, with approximately 700 agents working for him in multiple states. Looking back on his journey, Roberts attributes his success to his mantra: “I’ve always just gone to work. I show up, every day.”
