Realtors Compete in Epic Food Fight for a Good Cause

Engel & Völkers Vancouver Island celebrates the win as 2022 Realtor Food Bank Challenge Champion

Engel & Völkers Vancouver Island celebrates their victory as the 2022 Realtor Food Bank Challenge Champion. This friendly competition raised $10,749 and nearly 2,000 pounds of food for the region’s food banks.

A Friendly Rivalry for a Great Cause

The Oak Bay Business Improvement Association organizes an annual friendly rivalry between real estate agencies Engel & Völkers and Pemberton Holmes, located at opposite ends of Oak Bay Village. The goal is to raise the most food and cash for the Food Bank Challenge Champion title.

Partnering with Victoria Rainbow Kitchen Society

This year, the Oak Bay Business Improvement Association partnered with the Victoria Rainbow Kitchen Society, where they are seeing an increase in demand. Tracy Chowen, distribution and logistics supervisor, expressed appreciation for the community’s support during these challenging times, as rising food costs make fundraisers and food drives even more essential.

How the Rainbow Kitchen Helps the Community

The Rainbow Kitchen provides 180,000 meals annually and works to ensure food security with a no-questions-asked policy. Their programs include offering hot breakfasts and lunches, meals to local schools, senior meals, and in-house markets where guests can shop from donated goods to supplement their own cupboards for free.

How to Participate in the Realtor Food Bank Challenge

The Realtor Food Bank Challenge runs through December 2nd. Donations can be dropped off at Pemberton Holmes (2000 Oak Bay Ave) or Engel & Völkers (2249 Oak Bay Ave). Both locations accept non-perishable food, cash, cheques, and credit cards using The Rainbow Kitchen’s Tip Taps. Larger donations made through the website can receive a tax receipt if requested.

Joining Forces with the Island Equipment Owners Truck Parade and Food Drive

The challenge is held in conjunction with Oak Bay Village’s support of the Island Equipment Owners Truck Parade and Food Drive, taking place on December 2nd. The event includes music on the lawn of the municipal hall starting at 5 p.m., where volunteers will collect food and money donations.

Supporting the Rainbow Kitchen’s Holiday Wish List

Oak Bay Village is also collecting items for the Rainbow Kitchen’s Holiday Wish List, which includes practical gifts and personal items such as mittens, toothbrushes, socks, sweaters, and bus tickets. Items can be delivered to the front lawn of the municipal hall through December 3rd or to either real estate office until December 21st.

Find the Holiday Wish List at visitoakbayvillage.ca.
